What We Mean By Peace

When we speak of peace, we are not referring to a state of calm or to a life without conflict.

We are naming a posture.

Peace, as we understand it, is the capacity to remain present without stepping away from life.

It does not depend on circumstances improving.

It does not require resolution.

It is not the opposite of tension.

It is the opposite of disconnection.

This form of peace is not achieved.

It is practised through attention and renewed through presence.

Peace is therefore relational.

It is shaped by how we relate to ourselves, to others, to time, and to the conditions that support life.

When this orientation is present, life does not become easier, but it becomes coherent.

This is the distinction we hold when we speak of peace.
